Awesome opportunity for New Adult authors coming up!

You may have seen this on a couple of other blogs already, but I wanted to mention this awesome contest here!
YAtopia is about to host one kickass NEW ADULT pitch contest with Agent Sara Megibow from the Nelson Literary Agency and Heather Howland from Entangled Publishing.

The event will be taking place on the YAtopia blog (click link to read all about it) on July 10.  It will last all day, but they’re only taking the first 100 pitches, so if you want to enter, you’ll have to jump on it early in the day.

But, here’s the nifty part and why I’m posting this:

My group blog NA Alley and New Adult author Lynn Rush will be critiquing and offering suggestions on pitches during a special pre-pitch session hosted over at NA Alley next week!   This is an awesome opportunity for you New Adult authors to get your pitches looked at and really polish them up before making your final pitches to Sara and Heather.

Either way, this is just further proof that NA IS HAPPENING!  Woot!

Good luck to those to enter!

Liebster Award!

Yay, I received another Liebster award, this time from Alyssa at Life is Good!

The Rules...

1. Post 10 facts about yourself.
2. Answer 10 questions the tagger has given you and give 10 questions to the people you've tagged.
3.Choose 10 people and link them in your post.
4. Tell them you've tagged them.
5. Remember, no tag backs!

Well, my ten facts...(I'm starting to run out of new ones)

1.  I graduated from NAU.

2.  My in-laws are taking us to Hawaii next summer (so freakin' excited!) where they will renew their wedding vows after 50 years of marriage.

3.  I can't draw for crap but get all flattered when my students tell me I'm a great artist.

4.  I used to ride a motorcycle all the time before I became a parent.  Haven't been on one since I got pregnant with Sephy.

5.  I'm pretty sure that when the Greeks said that ambrosia was the food of the gods, it was a mistake in translation and they actually meant chocolate.

6.  I've ceased drinking anything but coffee these days.  I know it's bad for me, but I can't stop.

7.  I drive a blue Toyota.

8.  I'm having homemade Mac 'N Cheese with bacon and broccoli in it for dinner (can you tell I'm running out of ideas, yet?)

9.  It's storming outside, so I unplugged my laptop and am about to run out of power.

10.  I think The Wiggles, Yo-Gabba-Gabba, and The Upside Down show are totally creepy kids show.  And my daughter LOVES THEM!  Gag.

The questions I must answer:
1. What's your favorite sport?  (To watch or to do.)
Not a sports person, although I enjoy Hockey once in a while.  Oh, and roller derby.  We have a local league, and I wanted to join, but it's hard to do anything for myself when I have young kids around the house.  Maybe in a few years.

2. What genre do you write in?  And if your not writing a book, what genre do you like to read in?
Contempt and Sci-fi Romance.

3. What's the scariest movie you've ever seen?
I do not watch scary movies, but the Exorcist freaked me out pretty bad as a child, hence why I don't watch scary movies.

4. What was the happiest moment of your life?
When I found out I was pregnant with my first child.

5. What is your favorite holiday?

6. What book are you reading right now?
None, although I have millions on my TBR list.

7. What superpower do you wish you had?
Death ray eyes, so when someone pisses me off, I can do more than glare.

8. What is your favorite drink?

9. If you could make a wish come true what would you wish for?  Be honest.
Win a million+ dollar publishing contract.

 10. If you could be a character in one one of the books you've read, who would it be?
Rose in The Vampire Academy books, because she is made of AWESOME!

Okay, my ten questions:

1.  Are you a dog or cat person?
2.  An asteroid is headed to Earth.  It's going to strike in 24 hours, and there's no Bruce Willis and his oil crew to save the day.  How do you spend your last day?
3.  What's your favorite scent?
4.  Spiders or rattlesnakes - which one is scarier?
5.  Worst movie you've ever seen that you still kinda love.
6.  Do you believe in Aliens?
7.  Name one blog you consider a must-read?
8.  Book you're really looking forward to coming out?
9.  Favorite fictional character of all time?
10.  The top item on your bucket list?

Hello, everyone!  Before I announce the winners I've chosen, I wanted to thank everyone who participated in the hop and made this an incredible success!  We had 48 entries and I had a blast reading them all!  There were tons of really great ones, and that made it really hard to narrow it down to a winner.  In the end, Victoria and I both chose two winners although there were four I really wanted.

Anywho, without further ado, the winners I've chosen are:

for her conversation between Kara and her Grandmother!

for her fun conversation between Freya and Leah.

A thanks and an award!

I want to thank everyone who participated in The Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Blog Hop!  I think I've gotten to everyone except maybe a few people whose posts weren't up when I went to check- if I've left you out, let me know!  And let me just say, I'm having the hardest time picking, I hate picking just one because people feel left out.  I really enjoyed reading everyone's post, so I think everyone is a winner...I just can't afford to give prizes to everyone.  :(

Our winners will be announced on Tuesday!

In other news, I got an award!  Thanks to Sherry Ellis for giving me this lovely award!

Name five of your most fabulous moments, either in real life or in the blogosphere

The day my husband proposed to me.  It was Christmas day, and he super-taped all my presents.  I was (soft)cussing him out in front of all of his family for doing it – and the last present was a ring.  It’s a favorite story of the family.

2.  The day I got married.

3.  The day my daughter was born.

4.  The day my son was born, although this one was bittersweet and terribly frightening because I was hemorrhaging and there was a chance we could have both died.  He spent 9 days in the NICU.

5.  This one I’m not allowed to talk about…but it might be something fabulous.

Name five things you love

1.  My husband, kids, dogs and family.

2.  Writing and reading.

3.  Creating new things…

4.  My laptop.
What?  I do.  It's pink...and it's making me money.  My ac adapter failed on me for a few days and I was soooo sad!

5.  Scuba Diving.

Name five things you hate

1.  Hypocrites

2.  Drama Queens – and any high drama at all.  I preferred the laid back lifestyle.

3.  People who have nothing but negative things to say about teachers and call us lazy because we get vacation time, greedy because we want a livable wage, etc. – Things like this really incense me.

4.  The smell of pesticides – the most revolting smell to me in the world.
I can handle poopie diapers before I can handle the smell of pesticides.

5.  Doing laundry.  Thankfully, my husband does it most of the time.

Five other bloggers:
Tobi Summers
Tara Tyler
Jennifer Comeaux
Aldrea Alien
Andrea Teagan

Also, I wanted to thank Hope Roberson for giving me the Kreativ Blogger award - I've received it a few times so I'm not going to answer the questions, but I still really appreciate it!

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Blog Hop!

Today is the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun! Blog Hop!

Hosted by myself and Victoria Smith.

Today, our heroines and being interviewed by another girl from our writing.  More specific to mine, Ivy is being interviewed by Amery, her closest girlfriend.

I did something a little silly.  The first part is video, and the second part is written.  The second won't make sense unless you've seen the first.

So, enjoy my silliness... ooh, and it has some Aerosmith, too, if you turn  up the volume.  :D

SPECIAL NOTE: Amery Archer has been disqualified from this competition for providing false information.  A voice recording of the actual interview Amery conducted was discovered in my recycle bin today, of which I have transcripted below.

Tape Recording Begins…

Amery:  Okay, are you ready?

Ivy:  Wait.  What’s this thing for again?

Amery:  :groans:  I told you, I have to do an interview for this thing online.

Ivy:  On what?

Amery:  Weren’t you listening earlier? It’s girlie stuff.  No big.

Ivy:  And who exactly is going to see this?

Amery:  A few people you don’t even know, so don’t worry about being shy.  Speak your mind. Now, can we get started?  I have to get this finished before tomorrow.

Ivy:  Fine. Let’s do this.

Amery:  Okay, to start off, why don’t you tell me a little bit about yourself.

Ivy:  Well, I’m Ivy, I’m twenty-one, I go to Riordan College, and I’m one of the hosts of The Truths about Dating and Mating.

Amery:  Excellent.  Now, I’ll start you off with an easy question:  Who is your celebrity crush?

Ivy: (sighs) Channing Tatum.  Yum!

Amery:  I know, right!

Ivy:  He’s sex on a stick…Have you seen the trailers for Magic Mike?

Amery:  Only about a million times.

Ivy:  Damn, he looks good.  There were these girls gushing about him on Twitter the other night and one of them said something that really made me laugh.  God, what was it…(pause)…oh, I remember, she said:  “I just wanna rub oil all over his body and ride him like a Slip ‘N Slide.”

Amery: Well, can you blame her?

Ivy:  Not a bit.  I would ride the guy like a trick pony.

Amery:  :snickers:  Okay, then.  Next, tell me about Ian.

Ivy:  :rolls eyes:  Ian is my best friend and I love him, but he’s loud, obnoxious and a total man-whore.  Every girl on campus wants to be the one to give him what he needs, but I’m the only who knows what he needs, which is a swift kick in the ass.  It’s so annoying!  Everyone thinks he’s this big badass, and he plays into that, but I know the truth about him.

Amery:  And what’s that?

Ivy:  At heart, he’s just a lost guy looking to loved.

Amery:  Hmmm.  Next, what turns you off about a guy?

Ivy:  When he assumes I’m a whore because of what I talk about on the show, and treats me like a conquest.

Amery:  Do you get that a lot?

Ivy:  Hellz yeah! It really pisses me off, too.

Amery:  I’m sorry to hear that.  Moving on.  It’s the end of the first date.  The guy goes in for a kiss – what kind does he get?

Ivy:   Depends on the guy.  If he’s an ass, he’s likely to get bitch-slapped.  If he’s sweet but I’m still not sure how I feel, maybe a peck.  If I’m really into him, I’d probably be the one to make the move, and then I’d kiss him until he was begging for oxygen.

Amery:    Good to know.  So when it comes to a guy - boxers or briefs?

Ivy:  Boxers.  Although, to be honest, there’s something kind of hot about a guy who goes commando.

Amery:   :laughs uproariously:

Ivy: What is so funny?

Amery:  Nothing, nothing.  Last question:  What’s really going on with you and Ian?

Ivy:  :groans:  We’re just friends.

Amery:  Yeah, okay, if you say so…

LOL - Okay, I'm a dork...and I put way too much time in this, but when I decide to do something, I commit myself to it.  Hope it  made you laugh...or at least smile a little bit.  If not, oh well - at least I find myself funny.  :D

Thanks for participating everyone!  Can't wait to hop around and see what you've come up with.

Victoria and I will be announcing our winners early next week!  Now go, check out everyone else's awesome interviews in the linky below!

Check out HEAR by Jacqueline Abelson

Today, I’m interviewing Jacqueline Abelson and her book - Ya Book HEAR. You can buy her book on Amazon here for .99 cents.  Be sure to check it out - even though I haven't had a chance to read it yet, it sounds fabulous!

Lots of people can hear, but how many really listen?

At the age of 17, Charlotte Goode has issues. Serious issues. Despite countless surgeries, her parent's panic attacks, and a well-meaning oncologist, a rare genetic disorder means Charlotte must live with recurring tumors. Life isn’t supposed to be this way.

And just as Charlotte is learning to cope, she gets some devastating news: Tumors are growing on her auditory nerves. But, the necessary surgery will leave her completely deaf.

With the operation scheduled in a month, Charlotte prepares herself for a world without sound. A world without the violin she loves, without her best friend’s laugh, and even without her boss’s irksome tone. Charlotte's on a mission to take it all in, while trying to hire a band to play a benefit concert. Will it be The Bond Boys or Lennox?

Counting down the days until everything goes silent, The Bond Boys’ lead singer, Ron Cam, sweeps Charlotte off her feet. He’s pure charisma. Then there’s Matthew Lovelace of Lennox , who captures Charlotte’s attention with his music and “that” voice.

What will she do?

Time is running out. Charlotte must find a way to leave the hearing world on a high note without missing a beat.

What compelled you to write HEAR?

In the summer of 2008, when I was fifteen–years–old, the TV morning news program, Good Morning America had a story about a woman named Jessica Stone, who – like Charlotte – suffered from neurofibromatosis type II. Jessica’s story was different from anything that I’ve ever heard of. She was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis when she was 15 and had more than 20 surgeries to remove the benign tumors that grew along her nervous system. She had an estimated 80 tumors throughout her body. After watching this women being faced with this unthinkable obstacle, was the sole inspiration for HEAR. I wanted a character who was just as strong as Jessica Stone who was able to overcome the impossible. It wasn’t that simple though. I began writing HEAR while I was on Coronado Island (in San Diego) and found myself putting my character in an environment where I took the sounds of the waves and the seagulls for granted. I just couldn’t imagine a world without sound, which made it more compelling to write.

Describe your heroine in three words.

Charlotte Goode: Cynical, impulsive and strong.

Describe you’re hero in three words.

Matthew Lovelace: Gangly, self–enclosed and sweet.

What’s your favorite part about the book?

My favorite part overall, was when Matthew takes Cahrotte out to McDonald's. But instead of going through to drive thru to order food, Matthew brings his guitar with him when he stops before the confirmation screen and begins singing his order. Writing that scene was just so fun, because Matthew goes out of his way of helping Charlotte experience something that is so simple yet so profound, that she remembers it when she becomes deaf. That was the moment too, where Charlotte realizes that Matthew really cares about her, and wants Charlotte to take away something from the hearing world before she leaves it forever. In a way, Matthew was giving Charlotte his own gift of sound.

About the author:

I was born and raised in Pasadena, California. I've been writing ever since I've been able to hold a pen or a pencil in my hands. Currently, I'm nineteen–years–old and will be attending Mount Holyoke College in the upcoming fall, where I'll be looking forward to studying literature, writing and psychology. Also, I'm a competitive swimmer.
