Although I'm teaching English Language Development (ELD) pull-out groups this year, I've been a 4th, 5th, and 6th grade teacher for the last 12 years. And every year, I would choose books to read with my students that I loved so much and wanted to get them excited about.
So, these are some of my favorite books to read with students:
LOVE this book - and it's really fun to do voices for
some of the characters. It really makes my students laugh.
Love, love, love!
I didn't like this one so much the first time I read it,
but it's grown on me to the point where it's one of my favorites
to read with students - they can relate to a lot of the material.
A great retelling of a favorite fairytale.
A couple of other books I've enjoyed reading with my students are:
Hoot by Carl Hiaasen
Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli
A Long Way from Chicago and A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck
The Black Stallion by Walter Farley and
Books 1-4 of The Shadow Children books by Margaret Peterson Haddix.
